Widget is the kitten who was hit by a car at 45 mph in 2009. She had a diaphrammatic hernia which was life threatening. Also the head of her femur was shattered where it fits into the hip joint. All this was fixed and
Widget has been doing very well. She even adapted very quickly to our new dog!
She even has an adoption pending!
We had noticed she started losing weight at an alarming rate. We took her to the vet.
Findings on 10/5 were a very large mass in her abdomen (the size of a tennis ball). It was filled with fluid. The vet did bloodwork (all normal) and xrays (shows the abnormal mass).
Our choices were an exploratory surgery (high end estimate $700) or an ultrasound (high end estimate $200) which would probably still show the mass and still lead to surgery. So we opted for the surgery.
Widget was hospitalized and the surgery was done 10/6. They found it is a cyst and have removed as much as possible. Chances are it was a result of the original trauma but no one expected this. Her liver also has adhesions which makes her liver abnormal although it is not affecting her at this time.
So far with the xrays, bloodwork, tissue sent for analysis, and the hospitalization and surgery, we are up to $831.30. Another couple of nights of hospitalization are expected and that will drive the bill up to just over $900.
Thanks to everyone for your donation. Please cross post to your kitty-loving friends and family!
Sincerely,
Mona and Widget
